IMAS

NHS Interim Management and Support (NHS IMAS) was established in March 2008 by David Nicholson and is designed to support NHS organisations asking for short or medium term help, including the following areas:

  • Interim roles for Chief Executives and Directors
  • Providing Consultancy advice
  • Support for service reconfiguration
  • Intensive operational support
  • Organisational renewal
  • Leadership experience

NHS IMAS pulls together the expertise that exists throughout the NHS and co-ordinates it to focus on specific assignments or problems.  It supports organisations at all stages of development, whether going from ‘good to great’, working on service reconfiguration or supporting organisations through particular issues and challenges.

The programme has a pool of very experienced Senior Managers who are Agenda for Change Band 8d and above or the clinical equivalent who are allocated to undertake assignments. IMAS assignments give senior NHS Managers the opportunity to undertake a ‘stretch assignment’ that is a real job, often in a high profile environment, with the support of an NHS IMAS Mentor.
